The Discovery of the Cell

In 1665, Robert Hooke, an English scientist and inventor, saw tiny rooms in a cork piece of oak tree  under his primitive microscope and he called these ones cells. In the 1670s, a Dutch scientist called Anton Van Leeuwenhoek, discovered tiny microorganisms in a pond of water that he called "animalcules". How do you think these discoveries impacted society  and science in those days?
